The Occult

by Reign / Rulum

supported by
Meatbreak

Meatbreak Two intriguing, singularly minded, uniquely focussed projects to emerge from the UK underground in recent years, with arresting visions of the genre – the aggressive symphonic primitivism of Reign, backed with the Hammond-driven blackened forest metal of Rulum. Fantastic split. Favorite track: Loss.

darkenedspirit (Midgard_OBM) Very cosmic, relaxing, fascinating and spiritual. Excellent Black Metal from United Kingdom. Nice arpeggios, excellent work on the synths, great ambience, amazing atmosphere, this split album is quite experimental but so good. Favorite track: Loss.

darkfate makes me think of Dissection, Dawn, Vinterland..and the early 90s melodic black metal ..but whit a progressive hint into it.. amazing 🤟 Favorite track: A Breath Over The Mountain Pass.
Dave Aftandilian

Dave Aftandilian Rulum’s side offers something you don’t often hear: a prog take on black metal. Really interesting approach!

As for Reign: The night falls on us with crushing weight. Staring into the endless gloom, even our memories of hope begin to fade. Emptied husks, we are become nothing.
Dork

Dork These two bands surely deliver the black metal goods (with for Reign, some post-metally, modern hooks?), here. Both bands know how to craft songs---melodic and measured aggression is key to both, as well as conjuring up introspective moods. A highly enjoyable release from two bands to keep an eye on!

The road downhill is the path of naught Soaked by the blood of failures In search of more, a trail twisted and fraught The cairns that mark the paths of old Burn in the sunlight, awaiting the cold They weigh the cost of mans resolve Scarring the mountain by baring your soul Graves adorn the sodden ground They litter the foothills Serve as a warning for those who’ve felt The breath over the mountain pass To bring you to the dark A gentle palm in shroud of light To bring you to the dark, below Trace the stone with prayer and psalm And draw their strength through faith and alms Spill the blood of earth’s divine and Soak your wounds in hallowed brine A breath over the the mountain pass To bring you down to the dark below Into the never ending night, where unseen rivers flow All you’ve ever loved has never come to pass Hold on to your fractured light and reap what you have sown May you keep your heart close The light no longer touching your skin Retreat towards the dark within

There is a dark and winding road Through this night with no end It’s carved into the ancient stone A path of despair A feast of dust for nourishment knows no form down here The flesh made prison A feeble husk with bones wrapped tight in porcelain skin A stick made fortress Frail blue supine, sink now into dream The life in you subsides, Stygian dark revived I beg now for the stars to shine upon me The warmth of setting sun I cling now to the shadows draped upon me To the thick and stale air I demand now that the stars shine above me In all their cold bright glory I detest how all the time you’d taken from me Was spent living in a dream I rise now, a pillar of smoke. Divide and spread across the land Behold my glory, kneel before me The world made obsidian grave Pale blue supine, sink now into dream The life in you subsides, Stygian dark revived

Year after year men return   But what difference have they made?   Like cattle, they’re a means to an end   Let they go over the cliff.     Let them go over the cliff   I’m conscious, but how can I make a difference?   But I knew   They will all die   I loathe my cradled den   I let the apocalypse come.       Your time has come   Drear and numb   Your time has come   To clear the air.
6.
Now   Never fear   Wash away   England wanes   Now   My place is here   Now   They are all played.     Conscious   I wake the earth   All my life hurled   Into a blur       Now the time has come   To wash away   Broke or stay     Conscious   I wake the earth   All my life hurled   Into a blur     How did this end this way?   I can’t quite grasp it   I weep   When we fall   All in all.     How did this end this way?   I can’t quite grasp it   I weep   When we fall   All in all.

Push back the light   Clear the webs   Shut the light which binds the mass   Into darkness we fall   Willingly we know It’s right.

Hey gentlemen, you're wrong Your follies, your followers Conscience in the freezer We live, we're light. They plead for mercy Only animals plead We march, heresy We living men concede. You change the system You make your own You feel you missed them You're not alone. Trapped in the matrix We used to think Destroy sly tricks Now we can go with action. You change the system You make your own  You need your wisdom You're not alone.

about

Two new projects have emerged from the UK underground set to make their mark on the UK black metal scene.

REIGN, from the South of England and RULUM from the North have joined forces on this split to bring forth their own unique blends of black metal. REIGN takes us on an aggressive journey with huge vocal hooks, beautiful interludes and primitive blast beats while RULUM pummels us with 4 tracks of progressive black metal inspired by 70's prog rock, utilising lush mellotron strings, vintage analog synths and fiery Hammond organ sounds.

“The Occult” clocks in at just over 45 minutes and is now available to pre order on cassette, vinyl & digital formats.
